PHOTO ABOVE:  "Victory" Song from Brundibar

THE "VICTORY" SONG FROM BRUNDIBAR EXPRESSED THE CHILDREN OF TEREZIN'S BELIEF THAT HITLER WOULD BE DEFEATED:
"We’ve won a victory over the tyrant mean, sound trumpets, beat your drum, and  show us your esteem! We’ve won a victory, since we were not fearful, since we were not tearful, because we marched along singing our happy song, bright, joyful and cheerful. He who loves his dad, mother and native land, who wants the tyrant’s end, join us hand in hand and be our welcome friend!"

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has a wealth of information on Terezin! Perfect for research and personal knowledge.  CLICK HERE

"Tell Them We Remember" was text for 4th-6th grade --great for ALL ages. Each student had a copy.

Picture
This historical background on the Holocaust provides students a needed foundation for becoming Terezin specialists
Picture
For me, Charlotte Delbo's book, "Auschwitz and After," is the best book for giving us a beginning idea of what it was like...

Students in grades 4-6 also had a personal copy of "Terezin - Voices from the Holocaust" to learn about Terezin. 2nd & 3rd grade students used "The Cat with the Yellow Star" and "101 Dalmatians" by Dodie Smith.  I used "101 Dalmatians" FIRST when younger students before introducing Terezin. (Read explanation under book cover)

Picture
This excellent book by Thomson offers a detailed look at Terezin, helping students select project focus ideas

101 DALMATIANS A group is targeted strictly because they belong to a so-called race, the leader is assisted by helpers who do so unquestioningly, they dalmatians are rounded up and kept inside fenced area with eventual death staring them in the face, there are rescuers, the dalmatians do not understand the why of what is happening,

2nd-3rd Grade G.T. Holocaust Textbook below --This is an iBook I created that takes the information in "Tell Them We Remember" and makes it more accessible to younger students. It also contains reflection questions at the end of each section.
