NOTE to TEACHERS: When Pixar released "Inside Out" in 2015, I was blown away --not only by the incredible creativity that is always part of "PIXAR," but by the important message and opportunity for learning about emotions the film gave in a time when mental health issues are everywhere. I knew I wanted to use the ideas in this film to get kids talking --to get their parents talking! There are many curriculums centered around "Inside Out" on the web. This is yet another, however I decided to take it a step further and have kids present the story in a play to deepen their understanding by living in the characters. This worked so well, we decided to share it with kids in other schools.
There is a GREAT DEAL in Pixar's film that is impossible to portray in an elementary play, however there is a great deal we can show. It is a parody of Pixar's excellent film, but we hope it reaches out to kids. I am including a pdf of ideas you can use with your kiddos and encourage you to get them immersed in the incredible learning to be found in the story. Learning that will help our kids learn about their emotions and the emotions of others and begin developing the skills they need to have self control.
