K/1 DAILY ENRICHMENT!!!!!!!
Weiner Elementary is an Arkansas School of Innovation and an Arkansas Blue Ribbon School. We begin each school day as a learning community in morning assembly. All students, including K/1 children, are part of that interactive assembly that each day addresses patriotic/Americana singing, character/affective lessons, Artists of the Week (children learn about a famous artist each day and the art form his/her work best represents, Musicians/Composer of the Week (children listen each day to a composition and learn the musical terms associated with that composition, Place of the Week (children learn about a famous place and how to locate it on a map --heavy emphasis is placed on culture and places from all continents, the Face of Creativity (children meet a different creative person or creative "idea" each day and then learn the creative thinking skill exemplified by that person or idea, Spanish Word of the Day (each day children respond in Spanish to a NEW Spanish word that relates to learning in assembly. Culture assembly lasts for approximately 25 minutes and has become the vehicle for involving K/1 students in G.T. learning. All topics are differentiated and cover many areas not addressed in the regular classroom. This means that K/1 students are exposed to this learning for 125 minutes a week.
