"I was so very fortunate to hear Dr. John Roth speak when I participated in the Mandel Teacher Program at USHMM. Of all the speakers I have heard in my years of teaching, he was the most powerful." (Miss Hesse)
"Here are eight history lessons from the Holocaust that I hope my students will remember because they have spent time learning about the Holocaust. (Dr. John Roth)
1. Remember this fact: the Holocaust targeted a particular people, the Jews, first and foremost, and consequently the preciousness of all human life, the highest qualities of goodness, and even God were assaulted as well.
2. Remember the Holocaust as a warning, nothing especially where racism, hate, antisemitism, and prejudice can lead.
3. Remember to give Hitler no posthumous victories.
4. Remember to take nothing for granted.
5. Remember that there were people who risked everything to help others.
6. Remember the fatal interdependence of all human actions; take responsibility for one another.
7. Remember not to despair but to build within the ruins of memory in ways that can mend the world.
8. Remember that the devil is in the details, but also that commitment, force of will, sensitivity, and healing are in the details as well.
