Dear Ava, I chose you to become our E.B. White specialist! He's the author who wrote "Charlotte's Web" that we will turn into a play next year. "The Trumpet of the Swan" is heart-warming, funny, and downright SMART! The story comes together in a clever way. I actually laughed out loud several times. The main character never feels sorry for himself, although many in his situation definitely would. The main character is born mute --that means he cannot "trumpet," which is the beautiful sound swans make. But that doesn't seem to matter to Louis! I enjoyed the way E. B. White (the author of "Charlotte's Web") brings the boy together with the swan. You will enjoy this book --the swan's father is a hoot! It also has several good lessons --especially about perseverance and appreciation. Ms Hesse |
