Weiner Alum, Alexis Hurdle, Speaks to Us About Becoming Power Women
In April, 2012, Alexis Hurdle spent the morning talking with 8th-12th grade G.T. girls about issues they are and will be confronting in college. Alexis has an undergraduate degree in Communications and a Masters degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Arkansas. She worked at the U of A counseling Freshmen and serving as an Advisor for Greek Life before coming to work at Arkansas State University. Her passion is for empowering young women to recognize the power of deliberate choice in creating a meaningful future.
Alexis talked about everything from how to study to pitfalls that rob future goals. She talked about self presentation, college do's and don'ts and even talked about that most dreaded topic: boys. She shared many resources and opened eyes about girls and body image. Throughout the presentation she stressed that "just like Aretha Franklin, it's crucial to 'Respect yourself!'"
The attached Power Point is only a part of the resources and ideas she shared. It is followed by two excellent videos she showed the girls. If you see us walking around with our fists raised, its because you better look out --we're power women!
