Nudes are a vital part of great art seen in galleries. I used this --called "Why the Nudes" --with my elementary students before we did this project. Guess what? They weren't shocked at all. It was no big deal after they learned "why."

Ever wondered what works of art you would buy if you were super duper rich and everything was for sale. For this project, you will imagine just that! Using, Google Arts & Culture, you will look at the art work of most of our Artists of the Week, choosing your very favorite painting/sculpture from each. These will become part of your personal Google Art Gallery! NO written explanation or anything --this activity is simply to look, marvel, imagine, and let your personality show by what you choose.

The following attached lesson, which will include a response activity, will be discussed by students to help them understand WHY SO MANY NUDES! This is something kids need to understand since all art galleries have many representations of figure drawing in their collections. (the lesson is attached)
Going to an art gallery, looking at art by masters like Michelangelo and Degas, or even walking into most European cathedrals can be shocking! What's the deal with all the naked people wearing NO CLOTHES? In art, people with no clothes on are called "nudes." So... what's the deal?!!! What's wrong with people?
