Dear Marley,
"Watership Down" is on my list of my favorite books of all-time! I read it a long time ago after a friend kept after me to read it. "Read a book about bunny rabbits?!" I said, "I'll pass on that." But finally, after she was constantly after me, I picked it up and never put it down. I quickly noticed that each of the rabbits had different characteristics of gifted students. A few years later, I had my 2nd - 9th grade GT students read the book (we did most of this in class), discussing how the quotes at the beginning of each chapter made sense after reading the chapter. The kids LOVED the book. In late spring of that year, students in grades 2-6 dressed up like rabbits, and students in grades 7-9 dressed up as the villains and other animals that appear in the novel. We even spent the night in a rabbit warren. This WIDE GAME took place all over Weiner and in Waldenburg. We had a blast. You are going to love this book. It has everything --humor, deception, sacrifice, evil ...the list goes on. This is a book I will read again and again. Get ready for quite a ride! |
