Participation in G.T. productions has developed an appreciation for the creativity involved in theater and the work ethic required for a stellar performance. Attending Broadway performances at the Orpheum in Memphis has been overwhelmingly important to the overall development of students. THIS YEAR WE WILL ATTEND, "THE LION KING!"
***The Weiner Gifted and Talented Program took ALL (not just identified G.T. kids) 5th and 6th grade students to WICKED --something I wish we had been doing all along... for many of these students, this was the first time they had been to Memphis and certainly the first time they had seen anything on the scale of "WICKED."
Several weeks before the performance the music teacher exposed students to the music, the counselor talked about bullying and the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda, and the G.T. teacher involved the students in reading and discussing the libretto and the challenges of taking Baum's book and bringing it to the stage. They were prepared for the show!
